I’m Jojo, a tattoo artist based in Vancouver, and I’m excited to share my passion for creating tattoos that tell unique stories. This blog is a space for me to showcase my work, explain my creative process, and explore the art of tattooing in depth.
In my recent introductory video, you’ll get a glimpse of who I am as a tattoo artist and learn about my specialty in bold, large-scale designs. My ultimate aim is to transform a client’s idea into a tattoo that feels deeply personal.
My Approach
Every successful tattoo begins with understanding the client’s story. I believe that a tattoo can be transformative; it should encapsulate a moment, feeling, or important event in a person’s life. I dedicate time to build with my clients, listening closely to their ideas and what they hope to express through their tattoos.
For example, I spend about 30 minutes to an hour, sometimes more, in the consultation phase, discussing preferences and inspirations. I sketch freehand, which allows the design to evolve directly on the skin. This organic approach ensures that each piece is not only visually stunning but also deeply personal. Together, we create a tattoo that truly reflects their individuality. Each piece is create for each person with no copies.
Styles and Inspiration
My artistic influences span classic tribal patterns, modern art, japanese and everything in between. My signature style combines bold lines, intricate details, and dynamic compositions. I often draw inspiration from:
Nature: I may incorporate floral elements or animal motifs that resonate with the client.
Mythology: Elements from various myths can add depth and meaning to a design.
One of my favorite styles is Japanese Irezumi. This style merges the bold outlines of traditional tattoos
Behind the Scenes
Tattooing goes beyond the final ink on the skin. It involves a unique process filled with creativity and unexpected challenges. For example, I once helped a client design a large back piece that incorporated elements from their family heritage. Through research, we blended various cultural symbols into a cohesive design. This project not only made the tattoo more meaningful; it also strengthened my connection with the client.
In another instance, a session took an unexpected turn when we discovered a small skin imperfection that needed to be addressed before proceeding. Having a flexible approach allows me to adapt on the fly while ensuring the final product remains flawless.
The Importance of Aftercare
Once the tattoo is complete, the work continues with proper aftercare. It’s vital for the tattoo’s healing process and long-term appearance. I provide my clients with:
Detailed aftercare instructions outlining how to clean and moisturize the tattoo.
Guidance on avoiding sun exposure and wearing loose clothing to prevent irritation.
I also encourage clients to reach out with any questions or concerns during the healing process. Offering this support ensures they feel informed every step of the way.
